Bioprocessing Scale-Up Centres
Supporting a Creative and Innovative
The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC) supports industry by helping to accelerate and de-risk the commercialisation of innovative biotechnology processes and products, in line with Scotland's National Plan for Industrial Biotechnology.
Our Bioprocessing Scale-Up Centres offer access to a wide range of fermentation technologies and services from small scale culture to pilot scale production,
process optimisation, downstream processing and data analysis.
Expert advice is readily available from our experienced on-site team who draw on a broad knowledge base to assist with all aspects of your project from development of bespoke work programmes, identification and securing of funding, to full technical delivery and reporting.

Scale-Up Accelerator Applicants
CuanTec have established an innovative, environmentally benign method of extracting chitin from fisheries shellfish waste, diverting it from landfill, and using it to create bio-packing for food products.
This natural, compostable material will not only reduce the need for traditional plastic based packaging, but due to its anti-microbial properties, will increase produce shelf-life, further reducing food wastage.
The IBioIC Up-Scale Accelerator project will allow CuanTec access to the wide range of technologies and resources available at FlexBio. Providing CuanTec the means of trialling this innovative biotechnological process at pre-industrial scale, de-risking this key up-scaling from feasibility to pilot scale processing.
